About This Spot
Stepping into The Whitehouse Restaurant is like slipping into a cherished local hideaway where the hum of quiet conversation and familiar faces create an inviting, unpretentious atmosphere. Nestled on McEwan Street in Clare, this classic diner holds a timeless charm that draws you in with its modest storefront and handful of cozy booths. The space is intimate, encouraging a slower, more connected pace where the joy really is in the little moments — sharing a meal, exchanging smiles with the friendly staff, or simply savoring a pause in the day.
The vibe here feels genuinely grounded in community. It’s the kind of place where the buzz comes from comfortable ease rather than clamor; where the kitchen’s rhythm is visible and part of the experience, and the limited seating only adds to the sense of connection among diners. Amidst the diner’s simple, homey setting, there’s warmth — both from the carefully prepared food and from the genuine smiles that greet you.
When it comes to the menu, you can expect more than the usual diner fare because every item feels personal and thoughtfully crafted. Burgers are a clear point of pride, often transforming familiar ingredients into something quietly special — like a cherry-infused twist or a handmade brioche bun that adds buttery balance. The sides and specials speak the same language, with an emphasis on comforting textures and familiar flavors given subtle, clever boosts. From crispy fries that invite snackable moments to creamy sausage gravy that coats your taste buds with nostalgia, the offerings reflect a kitchen mindful of small details and the joy food can bring.
For those lucky enough to grab a seat during busy hours, the experience is less about speed and more about savoring the shared atmosphere — a stage where casual meets heartfelt in every bite and interaction. Whether you come for a classic diner breakfast or a burger that carries local character in every layer, The Whitehouse subtly reminds you why these neighborhood places matter: they’re an authentic pause, a familiar flavor, and a quietly joyful spot to belong for a little while.

If it hadn’t been for the reviews, I probably would have missed this gem of a restaurant! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was beyond fun and the people working were so nice! I wish I lived closer so I could go to this place all the time! I had the cherry cheeseburger and it was delicious!
Always a great experience! Burgers are great and staff is super friendly! Tried the pickle fries today and they were awesome with the homemade ranch plus we tried the one pound burger after seeing someone else order it... picture doesn't do it justice it's huge!
What an adorable diner experience! Very classic looking establishment with limited booth seating and a great local buzz when you walk in. I enjoyed my Olive Burger, the buns looked locally baked, the hamburger was hand pattied. Fries were typical from a frozen bag and a little overdone.
This is the best little restaurant I've ever been to. Service was amazing. Food was homemade and the best. The strawberry jam was homemade and I wish they sold it by the jar but they don't. Hashnrowns had the perfect amount of crunch, and my omelet was stuffed full. The sausage gravy is homemade and creamy! The toast is toasted on the grill. I can't rave enough about this place. It's a must stop if you're heading up North, or a local!
This place is absolutely amazing! The food is absolutely wonderful and it's amazing watching the chef keep up. You have to get there quick because there's only six spots in the whole place to sit, but even if you have to wait it is worth the wait. It is just amazing. I would come back to this place everyday if I could
It's been in operation since 1930 so it's not a modern glitzy kitchen place but it is a great dive burger place with a wonderful dog-friendly outdoor area and seven inside booths. The hospitality because that's what it is these people treated like their home and are welcoming you to their home and that hospitality is wonderful. They even brought out a Milk-Bone dog biscuit for our dog Decent burger great fries and awesome desert. We had a chocolate lava cake on vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup, it was roll your eyes back good
Fantastic experience! I ordered the 3-meat omelette this time, and it was absolutely awesome—packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and loaded with a generous portion of meats and cheese. The hash browns were a highlight, with just the right amount of crispy texture to complement the meal. This wasn’t my first visit, I had the Olive burger and onion rings, which were equally as good, and the onion rings were crispy and delicious. The consistency in quality across visits is impressive, and the cozy, welcoming vibe of the restaurant makes it a great spot for a meal. Highly recommend Whitehouse for anyone craving classic comfort food done right!
